There are several programs designed to help military students fund their education and it can difficult to determine which benefit will best suit your educational needs. To help you obtain information to make an informed decision, we have provided resources below for your review.

Military and First Responder’s Appreciation Grant

Candidate Description

Honorably discharged veterans, severely injured servicemembers, family members of Active Duty Servicemembers and Severely Injured Servicemembers, active duty servicemembers in graduate-level programs, dependents of deceased servicemembers, public safety and first responder personnel

Eligibility Requirements

Proof of Veteran (DD-214), Active Duty, or injured status is required.

Proof of active and current employment as public safety personnel or first responder

Amount: 10% total direct costs (tuition and all fees)

Chapter and Federal Benefits

There are numerous types of Chapter and Federal benefits available to veterans, active duty military, guard/reservists, and their families.  The following benefits are listed below.

Post-911(Chapter 33)

Post-911 funding encompasses Yellow Ribbon, Transfer of Entitlement, and the Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship.

Post-911 provides financial support for education and housing to individuals serving after September 10, 2001.  For information regarding Post-911 please visit: U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Education and Training

Yellow ribbon may be given to veterans entitled to their maximum benefit rate for Post-911.  For information regarding Yellow Ribbon benefits please visit: The Yellow Ribbon Program.

Montgomery GI Bill® (Chapter 30)

The Montgomery GI Bill® encompasses both the Montgomery GI Bill® Active Duty and the Selected Reserves (Chapter 1606).

Montgomery GI Bill® Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR)

The Montgomery GI Bill® Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR) program offers up to 36 months of education and training benefits. If you’re a member of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps or Coast Guard Reserve, Army National Guard, or Air National Guard, you may be eligible for this benefit

Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment (Chapter 31)

Vocational Rehabilitation assists Veterans with disabilities to prepare for suitable jobs.  For more information regarding Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment please visit: Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR&E).

Survivors and Dependent Assistance (DEA/Chapter 35)

DEA provides education and training for spouses and dependents of certain veterans including prisoners of war, members injured in service, those with disabilities, and those who have died due to a service connected disability.  For more information regarding DEA please visit: Survivors and Dependents Assistance.

Veterans Educational Assistance Program (VEAP)

Federal Tuition Assistance

Federal Tuition Assistance is available to active duty service members.  Each branch is listed below with more information on general eligibility and procedures on how to apply.  Please contact your local base’s educational department for further information.
